Who's Right?

My roommate tastes “just a little” of all my groceries: enough?

A story made up by our editors to get the debate going, not a real account.

My side

My roommate doesn’t steal my groceries. He samples them. A spoonful from every yogurt. A square from every chocolate bar. Three chips from the bag, one slice of turkey out of six. Never enough to be obvious, always enough for me to notice. He thinks nobody can tell. I can tell. I started putting labels with my name on my stuff. He thought that was “kind of aggressive for roommates.” So I bought a little lockbox for the fridge. Now he looks at me like I installed a safe in the kitchen.

Their side

My roommate thinks that when you live together, you share. He leaves his cereal, his coffee and his pasta out for anyone, and he doesn’t mind if I help myself. According to him, a spoonful of yogurt is no big deal, and a padlock in the fridge kills the vibe in the apartment. He’s suggesting we start buying groceries together.
