Who's Right?

My roommate’s boyfriend basically lives here and pays nothing

A story made up by our editors to get the debate going, not a real account.

My side

There are three of us in the apartment. Well, there were three. For a few months now, one of my roommates’ boyfriend has been sleeping over five nights out of seven. He takes twenty-five-minute showers in the morning, right when I need to get ready. He eats dinner with us, uses the washer, and he even set up his Xbox in the living room. He’s nice, really. But he doesn’t pay a cent toward rent, utilities or even toilet paper. I suggested he chip in a little, or come over a little less. My roommate took it badly. She says I’m trying to control her love life.

Their side

My roommate explains that her boyfriend lives far from his job, and that it’s temporary, until they find a place together. According to her, he often brings groceries for everyone and he fixed the closet door. She thinks asking him for money is treating him like an intruder, when he’s practically part of the household.
