I nap at my in-laws’ on Sundays: is that rude?

My side

Once a month, we have Sunday dinner at my in-laws’. The meal starts at noon and ends around 3. Then everyone stays at the table playing cards until evening. I don’t play euchre, and after a meal like that, I can barely keep my eyes open. So I settle on the living room couch and take a nap for an hour or two. I don’t bother anyone, I don’t make a sound, and I wake up in time for coffee. My husband told me his parents find it hurtful. I don’t get it: I’d rather sleep peacefully than pretend to care about cards.

Their side

My in-laws feel this dinner is the only time all month the whole family is together. Seeing me asleep in the living room while everyone else is talking makes them feel like I’m bored with them. They’ve offered several times to teach me euchre. According to my husband, I could at least stay at the table for part of the afternoon, even without playing.
