Who's Right?

I cleaned out the fridge and tossed my roommate’s marinade

My side

In our apartment, nobody cleans the fridge. So I do it, every Sunday night. My rule is simple: anything sitting there without a lid or a label goes in the trash. That Sunday, I found a bowl full of chicken in a mystery sauce, with nothing on it. I threw it out. It was my roommate’s marinade: he’d been making his grandma’s recipe for two days for a dinner with friends. He was crushed. He says I should have asked. I think a bowl with no lid and no label is an abandoned bowl.

Their side

My roommate explains that his grandma’s recipe needs to marinate for forty-eight hours, and that he’d told everyone in the roommates’ group chat. According to him, I made up my lid rule on my own, and nobody ever agreed to it. He thinks whoever cleans out the fridge should at least send a text before throwing away an entire dish.
