Who's Right?

I adopted a kitten without asking my roommates: was I wrong?

My side

A coworker was looking for homes for a litter of kittens. I saw one in a photo, tiny, orange, with a folded ear. Love at first sight. I brought him home that same night. I figured my two roommates would melt. One did. The other, a lot less: she’s not much of a cat person, and she’s worried he’ll wreck the couch, which belongs to her. Since then, the kitten has sharpened his claws on the armrest and slept in her laundry basket. She’s asking me to find a solution. I think she’s overreacting: he weighs under two pounds.

Their side

My roommate believes that a pet in a shared apartment is a decision for all three of us. She has nothing against this kitten, but she didn’t choose to live with a cat, and there are already claw marks on her couch. According to her, I should have asked first, even if the answer would have been yes. She’s at least asking that we protect her furniture.
