Was I wrong to bring my new boyfriend to her birthday unannounced?

My side
A friend was celebrating her thirtieth with a dinner at her place, for about ten people. I’d just met someone, and things were going great. I figured it was the perfect chance to introduce him to everyone. I didn’t tell my friend, to surprise her. When we walked in, I saw her face change. She had to add a chair, recut the lasagna, and my boyfriend ended up on a kitchen stool, squeezed against the radiator. He was charming all night. But my friend gave me the cold shoulder the next day. I think one extra person is no big deal.
Their side
My friend explains that she’d planned everything down to the inch: the number of chairs, the portions, the seating. She would have loved to meet my boyfriend, but not on her birthday, with no warning, in front of everyone. According to her, a simple text would have done it. She would have said yes, and she would have made more lasagna.
