Not invited to my friend’s birthday party: should I be upset?

My side

I have a friend I grab lunch with a lot, and we text almost every day. For my birthday, I invited her, obviously. For hers, I found out on Instagram that she’d thrown a party at her place, with about fifteen people. I wasn’t invited. I recognized her coworkers, her sister, and two friends we have in common. It really stung. For several days, I answered her texts more slowly, without saying anything. Then I brought it up, a little curtly. She gave me an explanation, but I don’t know if I should believe it, or if I’m just not as close to her as I thought.

Their side

My friend told me she thought she’d sent me the invite, and she assumed I was passing because I didn’t reply. Now she’s not sure of anything: she may have sent it to the wrong group chat. According to her, she cares about me a lot and would never have wanted to leave me out. She was hurt that I held it against her for days without saying a word.
