Who's Right?

My upstairs neighbor’s laundry drips on my balcony: am I right?

A story made up by our editors to get the debate going, not a real account.

My side

My upstairs neighbor hangs her laundry on a drying rack attached to her balcony. Right above mine. Every laundry day, water drips onto my patio table, my cushions and, twice, onto my head while I was having breakfast outside. Once, a sock fell into my bowl of cereal. I brought it back to her, very politely, in a little bag. She apologized, laughing. But nothing changed. I went to suggest she wring things out more, or move her rack to the other side. She told me she had no choice and it’s just water.

Their side

My neighbor explains that her washer doesn’t spin well, she doesn’t have a dryer, and the other side of her balcony never gets any sun. Her apartment is small, and drying laundry inside makes it damp. According to her, a few drops of clean water aren’t a big deal, and she’s always put up with the smell of my grilling without saying a word.
