My mom gave my childhood comics to a yard sale: who’s wrong?

My side

At my parents’ house, there were still three boxes of my childhood comic books in the attic. Issues I’d read over and over, some with my pencil notes in them. I was planning to take them someday, once I had a bigger apartment. On a visit, I found out my mom had donated them to the neighborhood school’s rummage sale. All of them. She kept two “for the memories.” I was devastated. I told her she should have asked me. She told me she had asked me. Several times. Over several years. I don’t really remember, but I don’t think that changes anything.

Their side

My mom swears she asked me at least four times in five years, including once by text, with a photo of the boxes. Every time, I answered “I’ll come get them soon.” The attic was overflowing, my dad wanted to insulate it, and the comics made the neighborhood kids very happy. According to her, waiting any longer meant waiting forever.
