My side
My girlfriend has a gift: she’s an amazing storyteller. The problem is that the stories are usually mine. My first job interview, where I said “love you, bye” to the recruiter. The day I got stuck in a fitting room in jeans two sizes too small. At every dinner with friends, she brings them out again, sound effects included. Everybody laughs, me too at first. But when her coworkers greeted me at their holiday party by calling me “the fitting room king,” I felt it had gone too far. I asked her to stop. She told me I had no sense of humor.
Their side
According to her, these stories are sweet, never mean. She tells them because she thinks I’m funny without trying, and it makes me endearing to her friends, who don’t really know me yet. She never meant to make me look stupid. And she points out that I tell the story of her epic fall into a backyard pond at every barbecue, without ever asking her.
