Who's Right?

My friends made me the official Saturday night designated driver

My side

In my group of friends, I’m the only one with a car. At first, I was happy to help. Then it became automatic. Every Saturday, someone posts in the group chat: “Who’s driving us?” and everyone tags me. I make three detours to pick everyone up, I can never leave when I want, I wait for the last ones to finish dancing, and I drive everyone home around 3 a.m. Nobody ever offers to chip in for gas. One Saturday, I announced I was taking an Uber, like them. They called me selfish. I figured they’d had a free taxi.

Their side

My friends say they never forced me and that, a lot of the time, I was the one offering. According to them, without a car, nights out of town are almost impossible. They often buy me a slice of pizza or dessert to say thanks. They think I could have just said I wanted help with gas, instead of quitting all at once.
