My friend swapped our Sunday hikes for trail running: do I let go?

My side

A friend and I have hiked together every Sunday morning for years. Easy trails, with a snack break at the top and lots of chatting. It was our time. A few months ago, she got into trail running. Now she wants to run. She invites me along, but I don’t run. I watch her take off ahead, I find her at the end, out of breath and thrilled, and we head home. We barely talk anymore. I told her I missed our hikes. She said she needs to push herself, and that I could train too. I have zero desire to push myself on a Sunday morning.

Their side

My friend explains that trail running has been amazing for her. She found a real passion, she’s training for a race, and she needs her Sundays to train. She cares about our friendship, but she doesn’t want to give up what makes her feel alive. According to her, we can see each other differently: coffee during the week, or an easy hike once a month.
