My boyfriend finished our show behind my back: am I overreacting?

My side
My boyfriend and I have a ritual: our show, every night, together, on the couch. Golden rule: nobody watches an episode without the other. One night, we start the second-to-last episode. The big twist hits and I literally scream. Him? Nothing. He just nods, totally calm, like someone who already knew. So I checked the watch history: he’d seen the whole ending on the subway, with his earbuds in, days before. And ever since, he’d been faking the surprise. He even went “oh no!” twice, very convincing. To me that’s worse than sneaking an episode: he put on a whole performance. The ritual is suspended until further notice.
Their side
He swears it wasn’t on purpose. The train got stuck in a tunnel for an hour, his Kindle was dead, the show was right there under his thumb: he caved. After that, he didn’t dare tell me, precisely so he wouldn’t ruin it for me. According to him, faking the surprise was an act of love, not a betrayal. And he rewatched every episode with me without spoiling a thing, which, he says, takes rare mental strength.
