I skip the round of good mornings at work: is it that bad?

My side
There are six of us on my team, all in the same office. Every morning, tradition says you make the rounds: hi to each person, a handshake or a hug, a few words about the weekend. Me, I walk in, call out a big “Morning, everyone!” with a real smile, and sit down. I’m not a morning person. I need my coffee and ten quiet minutes before I can talk. I’m very friendly from 10 a.m. on, I join the team lunches, I bring in donuts. Still, a coworker told me some people find me “distant.” I find that a little high school.
Their side
My coworker explains that in an office of six, the rounds take one minute. It’s not a formality: it’s the moment you notice if someone looks tired or upset. My good morning tossed at the room feels like I’m greeting the room, not the people. She says nobody is mad at me, but the new hires think I’m giving them the cold shoulder.
