Who's Right?

I privately correct the typos in his stories: is that annoying?

A story made up by our editors to get the debate going, not a real account.

My side

I have a longtime friend who posts a lot of stories: his meals, his cat, his late-night thoughts. He often makes mistakes. “Your going to love this,” “we could of stayed longer.” It hurts my eyes. So every time, I send him a little private message, nicely, with the correction and a wink. Never in a public comment, always in private. I thought I was doing him a favor, like a volunteer proofreader. But he finally replied: “Can you just watch my stories without grading them?” And he hid his stories from me. I feel a little punished for trying to help.

Their side

My friend explains that he posts to share moments, not to turn in homework. He knows he makes mistakes, spelling has always been hard for him, and every correction message takes him back to school. He admits I do it nicely, but by the tenth message, he felt I was only watching his stories to find the error.
