“I liked it better before” under her photo: she unfriended me

My side

A friend posted a photo with her new hair color: a very bright red, after years of brown. She looked thrilled. I commented, thinking I was being funny: “Bold! But I liked it better before,” followed by a little laugh. Between us, we tease each other all the time, it’s our humor. An hour later, my comment was gone. The next day, I saw she had unfriended me. Without a word, without a message. I thought that was way out of proportion for a little joke. I wrote to apologize in case it hurt her, but she hasn’t answered.

Their side

My friend explains that she had been hesitating for months before changing her color, and she was really proud to have taken the plunge. Reading “I liked it better before” in public, in front of everyone, hurt her, even with a laugh at the end. According to her, our teasing works one-on-one, not in front of her two hundred followers. She needed some distance.
