Flower pots vs. a car: the parking spot war outside my house

A story made up by our editors to get the debate going, not a real account.

My side

In front of my house, there’s a parking spot on the street. It’s not mine, I know. But I’ve always parked there. A new neighbor started putting his car there, even though he has a garage. To save the spot, I put two big flower pots in it when I leave. He moved them onto the sidewalk. I put them back. He moved them again, watering the flowers while he was at it, which I found especially provocative. Now we watch each other through the windows. My wife says we look like two kids on a playground.

Their side

My neighbor thinks the street belongs to everyone and my flower pots have no business in a public parking spot. He uses his garage as a workshop and has nowhere else to park. According to him, watering the flowers was a nice gesture, not mockery. He thinks I’m the one who started privatizing the street.
